Babylon, Hampton Bays Rematch In Playoff Opener

Panthers kick-off Division IV post-season today at home against Baymen.

The Babylon Panthers will experience a bit of deja vu Saturday as they face-off against the Hampton Bays Baymen in the first round of the Suffolk County Division IV football playoffs.

The Panthers trounced the Baymen last week 34-7 and the offensive line clearly hopes to make it a repeat performance. Babylon ended their regular season with a record of 6-2 while Hampton Bays finished the season with a mark of 4-4.

Babylon is expected to again lean heavily on a core of players that have proven themselves this season:  Sam Zamet, Trevor Fudim, Andrew Hurst and Steve Loudon.

The team as a whole has played well throughout the year and could make a run deep into the playoffs. Running back Fudim has been the backbone of the Panther offense, rushing for 841 yards with 15 of his 17 touchdowns coming via the run.

Starting quarterback  Zamet had a consistent season and Hurst's kicking game shined this season as did his play at linebacker on defense. Loudon, the defensive captain, starts at linebacker and was the team's leading receiver throughout the season.

Another playoff matchup happening this weekend of interest for the Panthers fans is the contest between the Port Jefferson Royals (4-4) and the Bayport-Blue Point Phantoms (6-2). The Panthers defeated Port Jefferson 42-0 and also topped Bayport-Blue Point 45-21. The winner of the Babylon/Hampton Bays game will play the winner of the Port Jefferson/Bayport-Blue Point game.
