Police: 4 Hurt After Drunk Drivers Crash Into Each Other in Babylon

One person was seriously injured in early Saturday morning crash, police say.

Four people were hurt–one seriously–in a Babylon crash early Saturday morning that led to the arrest of both drivers on DWI charges, police said.

According to police, Miguel Almonte, of West Babylon, was driving a 2012 Honda Civic, with two passengers, south on Livingston Avenue when he drove through a stop sign and struck a 2013 Hyundai Sonata that had been heading west on Park Avenue at 3:05 a.m.

Almonte’s car then struck a telephone pole, police said. Almonte, 22, and his passengers, Joseph Adames, 22, and Xavier Gonzalez, 21, were transported to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip. The driver of the Hyundai, 49-year-old Leslie Rizos, of West Babylon, was also taken to Good Samaritan.

Adames and Rizos were treated and released. Almonte and Gonzalez were admitted to the hospital, with Gonzalez’s injuries described as “serious.”

Almonte and Rizos were both arrested and charged with DWI. Rizos will be held overnight at the Fourth Precinct for arraignment Sunday at First District Court in Central Islip. Almonte will also be arraigned Sunday, but he will be transported from either the First Precinct or the hospital depending on his condition.
