Police: Babylon Man Fatally Stabs Mother, Seriously Injures Sister
Incident occurred inside a Babylon home Friday morning.

A Babylon man stabbed his mother to death and seriously injured his sister at their Babylon home Friday morning, police said.
First Precinct officers responded to 358 Livingston Avenue at about 7:20 a.m. after Kathleen Kearns, 59, called 911 to report that she and her 79-year-old mother, Mina Kearns, had been stabbed.
Mina Kearns was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip where she was pronounced dead. Kathleen Kearns was transported to the same hospital with serious injuries, police said.

A short time later, officers located 33-year-old Joseph Kearns a short distance from the home and placed him under arrest.
Kearns is charged with second degree murder and second degree attempted murder. He was arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on Saturday and is being held without bail.
