Public Hearing On Tuesday To Discuss Ban For Short-Term Rentals
Babylon Village officials are proposing a ban on Airbnbs and other rentals less than 30 nights. What do you think?

BABYLON VILLAGE, NY - The Village of Babylon will be holding a second public hearing to discuss a local law that would ban Airbnb and other rentals less than 30 nights. The follow-up to the first hearing last month will take place on Tuesday night.
The meeting will take place at Babylon Village court on 153 West Main Street starting at 7 p.m.
According to the proposed law, dubbed Local Law 8, the village determined there were "serious conditions arising from the rental of dwelling units" that are in violation of the village code.

The proposed village law claims that these rental units are too small, overcrowded, dangerous, cause an overburden to municipal services and "pose a danger to life, limb and property."
The punishment for violating the proposed law includes a fine between $500 and $1,000 or 15 days in prison for first offense. The fine can increase up to $5,000 after three or more offenses.

At the last meeting, some local residents who were against the ban, recommended officials inspect these short-term rentals rather than banning them, Newsday reports.
