Snowstorm Acts Of Kindness: Babylon Village Residents Rally To Help Neighbors
A small group of volunteers helped clear snow for neighbors who lacked the means or physical ability to do it themselves.
BABYLON VILLAGE, NY — In the wake of last week’s snowstorm, a small group of Babylon Village residents came together to lend a hand to neighbors who needed help clearing snow but lacked the means or physical ability to do it themselves.
Rachel Fasciani, a Babylon Village resident, said she turned to local community Facebook pages after the storm, asking for volunteers to help shovel and plow for households that could not afford the service or did not have able-bodied residents at home.
“We were small but mighty,” Fasciani said. “We helped four houses total, but what really stood out was seeing how many people in the community were quietly helping their neighbors, too.”

Among those who volunteered were Jordan Hoffman and his daughter, Savannah, as well as the Norinder family. Fasciani said one of the homes belonged to a woman who is currently hospitalized, and volunteers wanted to ensure her driveway and walkway were clear before she returned home.
“That last house was probably the biggest job,” she said. “That’s where the extra snow blower really helped, and multiple families came together. It was truly a group effort.”

Additional help came from the Aulino and Mackewicz families, along with Hoffman, turning what could have been an overwhelming task into a coordinated community effort. Fasciani said volunteers spent roughly four to five hours working through the heavy snow.
Fasciani, who has lived in Babylon Village for about 16 years, said the experience reflected the strength of the local community. She added that she hopes to organize similar volunteer efforts during future snowstorms.
“It was just a really good moment of community coming together,” she said.
