BABYLON, NY — Everybody has a favorite teacher — maybe it's a teacher who went out of their way to make one student's day or a teacher who brightens up a classroom every day.

One teacher who deserves a shout-out is Ms. Melissa Anderson, a 7-12 grade French teacher at Babylon Junior-Senior High School. She was nominated as this week's Teacher of the Week by Michelle Scharff.

Here's what Michelle had to say about Ms. Anderson:

In her time at Babylon, she has taught Kindergarten and 1st grade French along with grades 7-12, including College French through Syracuse University. She is able to take an everyday topic and make it spectacular! She takes French and makes it something that students love to learn. Her incorporation of culture, film, music and realistic experiences into her lessons makes her classes an eclectic presentation of the language. She brings that same passion and creativity into her role as the advisor to the French Honor Society, an organization that recognizes high achievement in French classes, but that also seeks to give back to the community and to the francophone world. Annually, she puts together a Student/Faculty Talent Show to benefit an organization chosen by the students. Whether it is Doctors Without Borders, a Clothing Drive to benefit the earthquake victims or the most recent effort to help a Haitian Orphanage through a foundation called Be Like Brit, they put on a phenomenal show while supporting those less fortunate. Last year, they raised more than $3,000 and plan to go big again this year. The thing is that she doesn’t want recognition, she just wants to spread her love of the language and culture while helping others.

Congratulations to Ms. Anderson!
