Three Hurt in Deer Park Crash, Babylon Man Charged With DWI

The driver arrested suffered serious injuries in crash Sunday afternoon, police say.

A Babylon man is charged with DWI after three people were injured in a two-car crash in Deer Park Sunday afternoon, police say.

According to police, William Herrera, 45, was driving a 2000 Chevrolet Blazer east on Long Island Avenue when he attempted to make a left turn onto Wright Avenue and his vehicle collided with a westbound 2000 Honda Accord at about 4:10 p.m.

Herrera, 45, was airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment of serious internal injuries, police said. The driver of the Honda, 17-year-old Dyllan Pleva-Korsika, of Deer Park, and a passenger in the Blazer, Robert Houlahan, 47, of Babylon, were both transported to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip for treatment of non-life threatening injuries, police said.

Herrera will be arraigned at a later date on the DWI charge.

Both vehicles were impounded for safety checks and the investigation is continuing. Detectives are asking anyone with information on the crash to call the First Squad at 631-854-8152.
