Trash Can to Runway Ready
Babylon students transform discarded items into wearable runway fashions.

Babylon Memorial Grade School sixth-grade students tapped into their creative sides as they worked to transformed discarded items into wearable runway fashions for the Students of Long Island Maker Expo “Trash to Fashion” event.
The project, which called for students to deploy various STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics) skills, focused on creating outfits made from such things as Doritos bags, soda cans and plastic tablecloths. The students worked in small groups and created approximately 10 different outfits to showcase.
During the SLIME event, attendees had the chance to view the creations and attend a number of STEAM-centered workshops and activities.
