Village Officials Approve Regulations For Babylon Businesses

Restaurants and bars will now have new requirements in the village of Babylon.

BABYLON VILLAGE, NY - Babylon Village officials voted unanimously to approve a local law to regulate businesses in the area. The law was voted on during the last board of trustees meeting on Dec. 10.

The "Local Law 10" includes several rules and regulations for businesses to open within the Village. The law states that a special permits are still required for all restaurants, bars and any other businesses where food and/or drinks are being consumed with seating for more than 20 people.

However the changes to the moratorium state that trustees can review applications "considering such planning concerns it determines in its discretion necessary to promote the public health,
safety, and welfare."

Another new addition to the the regulation states that businesses have to provide ample parking. Every business has to have at least one parking space for each two stools at counter areas or one space for every three feet of counter plus one parking space for each two seats at tables; plus one space for every two employees on the maximum work shift, unless waived by the Board of Trustees.

According to the law, no special permit are required for any business that seats 8 persons
or less.
