West Babylon Elementary Students Become City Planners
Tooker Avenue Elementary students learn about city planning and business.

West Babylon second- and third-grade students at Tooker Avenue Elementary School learned about city planning and business from Ernst and Young representatives during a Junior Achievement activity.
Junior Achievement is a nonprofit organization that brings real-world experiences to students through hands-on curricula.
The students learned about the importance of city planning in relation to a city’s economic development. They also learned about entrepreneurs and the types of new businesses they develop to serve the community. Guided by these lessons, students worked collaboratively as city planners, creating building zones for different businesses and writing about their work in a “junior journal.”

Working as a team, they also started a restaurant business and made decisions about the restaurant’s products, prices, hiring practices and promotion strategies.
