WYANDANCH, NY — A West Babylon man has admitted to causing a deadly crash while fleeing police in Wyandanch, killing a 29-year-old jogger, Suffolk County District Attorney Ray Tierney said.

Jason Jean-Joseph, 24, pleaded guilty Tuesday to second-degree manslaughter, the DA said, along with several other charges tied to the June 13, 2025, crash that killed Hillel Fuld, of New York City.

According to prosecutors, the crash happened just before 7:30 p.m. when Suffolk County police attempted to stop Jean-Joseph, who was driving a 2018 BMW 5 Series with a suspended license.

Instead of pulling over, Jean-Joseph sped away from officers and accelerated eastbound on Wyandanch Avenue, where he struck Fuld while he was jogging, prosecutors said.

Jean-Joseph did not stop, police said.

He left the victim lying in the roadway and continued fleeing without checking on him, prosecutors said.

Fuld was transported to Good Samaritan University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

After the crash, Jean-Joseph drove to another location in Babylon, abandoned his vehicle on the side of the road, and fled on foot, prosecutors said.

Authorities said he also discarded a loaded 9mm pistol with a high-capacity magazine in a wooded area south of John Street before leaving the scene.

Following an investigation, Suffolk County police arrested Jean-Joseph on Aug. 29, 2025.

During his plea before Acting Supreme Court Justice Anthony Senft Jr., Jean-Joseph admitted to a series of charges, including second-degree manslaughter, second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, second-degree assault, leaving the scene of an incident without reporting, first-degree unlawful fleeing a police officer, tampering with physical evidence, multiple additional weapon possession charges, reckless endangerment, reckless driving, and aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.

Jean-Joseph is scheduled to be sentenced on May 1. He is represented by Keith O’Halloran, who did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

“Fleeing from the police puts the lives of everyone in danger,” Tierney said. “Here, this defendant’s dangerous and reckless choice killed a 29-year-old man simply out jogging.”
