West Babylon Senior High School student Elizabeth Yates is a second-place Level 2 winner in the Suffolk County Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians, Inc. Irish History Essay Contest and has advanced to the state-level competition.
The contest’s topic, “The Role of the Irish People in the American Civil War,” commemorates the end of the Civil War 150 years ago in April. Elizabeth received a certificate of commendation and a $75 award.
