West Babylon Woman Charged With Animal Cruelty: SPCA

WEST BABYLON, NY — A West Babylon woman was charged with animal cruelty Friday, after an investigation found her dog in severe pain, according to the Suffolk County SPCA.

Suffolk County SPCA detectives charged Marylyn Richards, 58, with the misdemeanor after an investigation determined that she failed to provide her dog, Minni, with veterinary care and grooming, which caused the dog severe discomfort and suffering, the SPCA said.

According to Suffolk County SPCA, the female Maltese was found extremely matted and covered with feces, urine, dirt and debris throughout her fur. The severe matting and untreated medical issues caused the dog substantial pain, impaired vision and restriction of movement, the SPCA said. The dog also had severe dental disease including infections and abscesses in its mouth.

Richards is scheduled to appear in First District Court in Central Islip on November 10.

Suffolk County SPCA Chief Roy Gross said animal cruelty will not be tolerated in Suffolk County. Anyone who witnesses animal cruelty or neglect in Suffolk County is asked to contact the Suffolk County SPCA at 631-382-7722.
