Wrestlers Keep Undefeated Season Going Strong
But today's match against Bayport-Blue Point will prove challenging to the varsity boys team.

Babylon's varsity wrestling team handled Stony Brook with ease Tuesday, taking eight matches out of 10 and winning by a score of 71-9.
The Panthers now boast an undefeated record of 5-0 in League VII, Division 2. Wins were posted by Roderick Holder (112), Sean Kelly ( 119), Luke Zappia (135), Joey Mankiewiez (130), Conor Valvo (160), Brian Loskamp, Ryan Visguass and Colton Craft.
Babylon entered into Tuesday’s match extremely confident not only because of their undefeated division record, but mainly because of their performance upstate this past weekend in a tournament hosted by the Nanuet district and attended by some of the top ranked wrestlers in the state.
Coach Ken Brodmerkel was proud of his squad's accomplishments.

"We came home from Nanuet with six champions," he said. Those were: Adam Gumbardo (96), Luke Zappia (135), John Dertinger (285), Nick Brennan (215), Brian Loskamp (171), and Mathew Rodriguez.
Brodmerkel is also very pleased with his team’s undefeated record with a majority of the season comleted. Stony Brook wasn't a huge worry for the Panthers given they are 4-9 this season.
But today's 4:30 p.m. match against the Bayport-Blue Point Phantoms, a Suffolk County powerhouse wrestling squad which is currently 4-0, does have Brodmerkel a bit worried.
“Bayport has a team full of ‘hammers’ who are going to be very tough," said the coach.
But Babylon has a few of its own ranked wrestlers in their division, including: Senior Roderick Holder (112) and Senior Nick Brennan (215) ranked first place in Division 2. Junior Sean Kelly (119) and Junior Dan McHugh (125) are ranked second place in Division 2. Junior Joey Mankiewiez (130), Senior Conor Valvo (160), Senior Ryan Visgauss (189), and Sophomore John Dertinger (285) are ranked third place in Division 2.
