The 1 AM Fire Island Ferry Is No More
Those traveling to Fire Island this summer might want to plan ahead.
The infamous 1 a.m. ferry from Fire Island is no more.
A letter from Ocean Beach Mayor James Mallott and Fire Island Fire Ferries President Tim Mooney released Wednesday states that the 1 a.m. ferry leaving Ocean Beach has been discontinued effective immediately. The 1 a.m. ferry from Ocean Bay Park will also stop running.
The letter does not say why the 1 a.m. ferries will be discontinued, however it does state that it was a "mutual agreement" between the village and Fire Island Ferries. The 1 a.m. ferry has been the scene of numerous drunken fights over the years and Suffolk Police have often been called to the respond to the Bay Shore terminal.
