BAY SHORE, NY — A doctor at South Shore University has been recognized for his work implanting an inflatable penile prostheses, a penile implant that serves as a long-term treatment option for patients with erectile dysfunction, the hospital announced.
SSUH's Doctor Roger Khouri, MD was designated as a Center of Excellence for Boston Scientific’s AMS 700™ Inflatable Penile Prosthesis, which makes him the first physician on Long Island and only one of two in New York State to achieve the prestigious designation, the hospital said in a statement.
The COE designation recognizes Khouri’s expertise in implanting the AMS 700, his extensive experience in treating ED and his commitment to educating patients and the community about available treatment options, the statement said.
"Achieving this designation is a testament to our dedication to helping patients improve their quality of life through advanced treatment options," Khouri said. "Erectile dysfunction is often overlooked as a medical issue, but it can have profound effects on both individuals and relationships. The AMS 700 provides a life-changing solution, and I’m proud to offer this to my patients."
According to the hospital, ED is a common condition affecting more than half of men between the ages of 40 and 70 to varying degrees, stemming from a variety of physical causes like prostate cancer or psychological causes.
