📰 News we're reading

• Man Ejected From Dirt Bike In Bay Shore Crash: Police (patch.com) — Bay Shore residents are being urged to share any information after a 45-year-old local man was seriously injured when his Suzuki dirt bike struck an Acura stopped in traffic on Brentwood Road. The rider was ejected and taken to South Shore University Hospital in Bay Shore, while the Acura's Bay Shore driver was unhurt and both vehicles were impounded for safety checks.

• 2 More Rabid Raccoons Found In Islip Town, Health Officials Say (patch.com) — Health officials have confirmed a rabid raccoon was found dead on a Bay Shore street, with another discovered in Islip, bringing Suffolk's terrestrial rabies total to 39 cases since early 2025. While no human exposure is believed, residents are urged to avoid handling wildlife and to report any raccoons acting strangely to police or state environmental officers immediately.

• Mosquito samples test positive for West Nile virus (trihamletnews.com) — Mosquitoes collected in Bay Shore have tested positive for West Nile virus as part of a wider Suffolk County outbreak, though no human cases have been reported so far this year. County health officials urge residents, especially those over 50 or immunocompromised, to avoid mosquito bites, report dead birds, and call county hotlines with mosquito problems or concerns.
