• Two dead rabid raccoons found in Islip Town — the 38th and 39th cases in Suffolk, health officials say (newsday.com) — Health officials have confirmed a rabid raccoon was found dead on a Bay Shore street, part of two new rabies cases in the Town of Islip. While no human exposure is believed, residents are urged not to touch wild animals and to report any raccoons or other mammals acting strangely. Authorities provide local phone numbers for reporting suspicious wildlife behavior.
   

• 'Rocky the Musical' debuts at CM Performing Arts Center (newsday.com) — A Bay Shore performer, Quentin Thomson, is stepping into the ring as Apollo Creed in "Rocky the Musical," now debuting at CM Performing Arts Center in nearby Oakdale. The production celebrates the film's 50th anniversary with familiar songs, new numbers, and an immersive onstage boxing match. Local theater fans can catch the Long Island run through late September.
