BAY SHORE, NY — A dog trapped beneath a backyard shed in Bay Shore was rescued by firefighters who used hydraulic rescue tools to lift the structure and free the animal, the Bay Shore Fire Department said.
Firefighters responded to a home on Gardiner Drive after receiving a report of a dog trapped beneath a shed, according to the department.
While responding, firefighters found that the dog was trapped beneath a shed in the backyard.
Firefighters requested air bags, Hurst hydraulic rescue tools, commonly known as the "Jaws of Life," and cribbing equipment to assist with the rescue.
Firefighters from Rescue 11 deployed the equipment and worked together to lift the shed using the hydraulic tools and cribbing, creating enough space to free the dog, named Cody.
The entire rescue took around 20 minutes and was completed without further incident, the department said.
Cody's owner expressed gratitude to the firefighters for their efforts.
The rescue was one of nine emergency calls the Bay Shore Fire Department responded to that day, according to the department.
