BAY SHORE, NY — South Shore University Hospital has been named one of America's 50 Best Hospitals for Cardiac Surgery for the 10th consecutive year, according to Healthgrades' 2027 hospital quality rankings.
The Northwell Health hospital in Bay Shore also ranked No. 2 in New York state for cardiac surgery and received national recognition for coronary intervention and joint replacement.
The hospital earned four distinctions in the 2027 Healthgrades awards, including a place among America's 50 Best Hospitals for Cardiac Surgery for 10 consecutive years, from 2018 through 2027.
South Shore was also named one of America's 100 Best Hospitals for Coronary Intervention for the sixth consecutive year, dating back to 2022, and one of America's 100 Best Hospitals for Joint Replacement for 2027.
"These recognitions reflect the tireless work of our physicians, nurses and clinical teams who show up every day committed to delivering the highest-quality care," said Irene Macyk, president of South Shore University Hospital.
Healthgrades evaluates hospital performance using Medicare data, examining patient outcomes such as in-hospital mortality and complication rates. The organization uses risk-adjusted measures to assess hospital performance and identify facilities with better-than-expected outcomes.
According to Healthgrades, patients treated at hospitals recognized among America's 50 Best for Cardiac Surgery have, on average, a 59.8 percent lower risk of dying than patients treated at hospitals that did not receive the award.
The statistic reflects outcomes across hospitals receiving the designation, rather than South Shore University Hospital's individual mortality rate.
South Shore University Hospital provides a range of cardiac services, including open-heart surgery, transcatheter valve procedures, coronary intervention and electrophysiology.
The hospital also operates a comprehensive orthopedic and joint replacement program that includes minimally invasive and robotic-assisted procedures.
The 2027 awards are part of a broader recognition of clinical quality across Northwell Health, New York State's largest health care provider.
