Bay Shore Beach Closed To Bathing

The local beach was shut down on Monday due to the discovery of high levels of bacteria.

BAY SHORE, NY - Benjamin's Beach in Bay Shore is closed to bathing due to the finding of bacteria at levels in excess of acceptable criteria, the Suffolk County Department of Health announced on Monday.

Tanner Park Beach in Babylon and Lake Ronkonkoma Islip Town Beach, remain closed.

According to Suffolk County Commissioner of Health Dr. James Tomarken, bathing in bacteria-contaminated water can result in gastrointestinal illness, as well as infections of the eyes, ears, nose, and throat.
