Bay Shore-Brightwaters Library Presents: 'Long Island And WWII: The Home Front'

Event Description: From the ashes of failed Nazi Spy rings, to the greatest industrial boom, Long Island was transformed from a collective group of rural communities to modern day suburbia. During the war, Long Island held the record for producing the most fighter planes for combat operations. Long Island was also home to five World War II Medal of Honor recipients. By the close of the war, Long Island encapsulated the role of global citizen in hosting the first United Nations in Lake Success. While providing a scenic back drop for the United Nations, Long Island became the global stage for the events that started the Cold War. The historical foundation of our shared heritage will be described in the forthcoming book “Long Island and WWII: The Home Front” (History Press). In this presentation author Christopher Verga will revisit this history in an interactive lecture utilizing historic photos and documents from Long Islands’ bygone era.
