Bay Shore Football Player Named Finalist For Heart Of Giant Award
Richie Arnett is one of six finalists competing for the grand prize scholarship.

BAY SHORE, NY - A Bay Shore High School football player was named a finalist for the 2019 Heart Of Giant award.
Richie Arnett, of Bay Shore, received the most votes out of his week and moved up as finalist for the award.
He was nominated last month and was up against the other nine high school football player nominees for the award.

The students who were chosen have been nominated by their coaches for their commitment, teamwork, will, character and dedication.
A total of 60 nominees were announced over the past six weeks and one finalist was chosen by an online vote from each group.

One grand prize winner will be selected based on video submissions stating why they have the Heart of a Giant and will be honored on the field during a New York Giants' home game.
All six finalists and four honorable mention finalists will receive $1,000 for their high school's football program, with the winner's school getting an additional $9,000.

After his father tragically passed at work, Richie Arnett contemplated walking away from the game that he had loved his whole life. As he approached his junior season as the clear starter at quarterback, he realized his father could never see the player he has become. After weeks off, Arnett came back to the game he loves and used football to motivate himself to make his father proud. Head Coach Mike Brown says, "I admire him for being able to put aside his pain to be there every day with a smile helping everyone, including myself, become better each and every day.
