BAY SHORE, NY — Bay Shore High School graduating senior Abigail Regan has been awarded a $1,000 Environmental Conservation Scholarship from Gershow Recycling.

The one-time scholarship is awarded competitively to a graduating high school senior who plans to pursue a degree in engineering or environmental science, according to Gershow Recycling.

Regan, a member of Bay Shore High School’s Class of 2026, received the scholarship from Gershow Recycling, a Long Island-based environmental recycling company with nine locations across New York, including Bay Shore, Lindenhurst, Huntington Station, Medford and Riverhead.

Gershow Recycling said the scholarship reflects the company’s commitment to supporting students interested in environmental conservation and related fields.

Founded in 1964 by Sam Gershowitz, Gershow Recycling began as a two-person operation with a tractor and trailer, a boom truck and the company’s first portable car flattener. Today, the company generates more than 750 jobs and purchases scrap metal that would otherwise end up in local landfills, turning it into recyclable ferrous and non-ferrous products.
