Bay Shore Student Tests Positive For Coronavirus: School District

The high school student, who was not symptomatic the last time he or she was in the building, tested positive this week.

BAY SHORE, NY — A student at Bay Shore High School has self-reported to the school to have been confirmed to have coronavirus, the school district announced this week. According to a message from Superintendent Joseph C. Bond, officials are not able to share the identity of the individual or share details of his/her case due to privacy law but did say that he student was not symptomatic the last time he or she was in the building.

Schools have been closed to students since County Executive Steve Bellone announced a Suffolk-wide school closure for two weeks on March 16. On Friday, Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced that the school closures will be extended until April 15.

"All of our buildings have been sanitized regularly over the last few weeks, and in the days since school has closed," the message to the community read. "We will continue to ensure that our buildings are cleaned and sanitized before our students return to class.We understand that this news may cause fear in some within our school and larger community."
