BAY SHORE, NY — A Bay Shore woman pleaded guilty Monday to first-degree manslaughter in the 2025 fatal stabbing of her former boyfriend near the Bay Shore Long Island Rail Road station, Suffolk County District Attorney Ray Tierney said.

Nikeya Barker, 46, admitted to fatally stabbing 47-year-old Shurvell Rush of Central Islip on May 3, 2025, prosecutors said. Barker and Rush had previously dated but were no longer in a relationship at the time of the attack, according to the DA's office.

Shortly after 6:30 p.m. that day, Barker confronted Rush at the Bay Shore train station about an incident from their previous relationship, according to court documents and Barker's admissions during her guilty plea.

Prosecutors said Barker then followed Rush through the station parking lot toward an adjacent townhouse complex while carrying a large knife before stabbing him once in the chest in the parking lot on Railroad Plaza.

Surveillance footage captured Barker discarding the knife in bushes a short distance from the attack before fleeing, the DA said. Police later recovered the weapon, and forensic testing detected Barker's DNA on it, prosecutors said.

Rush was taken to South Shore University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead from the stab wound.

Barker surrendered to Suffolk County Police Homicide Squad detectives on May 6, 2025.

Barker pleaded guilty Oct. 5 before Judge Bryan Browns to first-degree manslaughter, a Class B violent felony.

She is scheduled to return to court Jan. 11, 2027, for sentencing and faces 15 to 25 years in prison, according to prosecutors.

Barker is represented by attorney Robert Macedonio, who was not immediately available for comment.

“This defendant followed her ex-boyfriend from the train station through the parking lot before stabbing him once in the chest, causing his death,” Tierney said. “Mr. Rush’s life was senselessly cut short, and we hope that this conviction will bring a measure of justice to his family.”
