Bay Shore Women Start Campaign To Donate Sneakers To Nurses
The five local women have donated hundreds of sneakers to nurses all across the country working hard amid the coronavirus pandemic.

BAY SHORE, NY — A group of Bay Shore women recently came together to donate sneakers to nurses all across the country working hard amid the coronavirus pandemic. In the two months since starting the initiative, the local women of the group, Nurses Keep Going; Lucille Bootman, Ajón Crump, Chloe Horton, Jasmine Robinson and Shani Mars; have managed to send out and order nearly 200 pairs of sneakers to give to nurses.
The women started an online fundraiser on GoFundMe to help their cause. The page has a set goal to raise $15,000 in donations to be able to purchase the shoes to then donate to the nurses. As of Wednesday, the group has surpassed their goal, raising a total of $15,128.
The women heard from nurses that sneakers are the "least, but still essential, recognized part of their uniforms." The group found that nurses walk an average 10,000 to 15,000 steps per shift and that they are likely to discard of their sneakers when the COVID crisis has dissipated.
