Brightwaters Beach Closed To Bathing

The local beach was shut down due to excess bacteria.

BRIGHTWATERS, NY - Brightwaters Village Beach was closed down to bathing on Monday due to the finding of excess bacteria.

East Islip Beach and Valley Grove Beach in Eatons Neck, which closed over the weekend, remain closed also due to excess bacteria.

Tanner Park Beach in Copiague, Corey Beach in Bayport, Terraces on the Sound Beach in Rocky Point, Sayville Marina Park Beach, and West Islip Beach also remain closed.

Beaches will reopen when further testing reveals that the bacteria have subsided to acceptable levels.

According to Suffolk County Commissioner of Health Dr. James Tomarken, bathing in bacteria-contaminated water can result in gastrointestinal illness, as well as infections of the eyes, ears, nose, and throat.
