As we begin to approach the Thanksgiving holiday season, I’m reaching out to you not only as a colleague, but as President of Islip Food for Hope and as someone who believes deeply in the power of our community taking care of one another.
This Thanksgiving, our goal is to make sure 1,300 local families can sit down together and enjoy a warm, traditional Thanksgiving dinner through our Boxes of Love program.
For many of us, Thanksgiving means gathering around a table filled with food, family, laughter, and traditions. But for far too many families in our community, putting that meal on the table is a real struggle. Food insecurity continues to impact more of our neighbors, seniors, and families than many of us realize.
That’s why this work means so much to me.
One of our favorite annual fundraisers is coming up at the Harp &amp; Hound in Islip. It’s always a great day filled with football, great food, tons of raffles, friends, and, of course, our famous Stop the Clock Drawing!
There is no admission fee. Food and beverages will be available for purchase at your own expense, so come down, spend the day with us, watch some football, and most importantly, help us help others.
We currently have just 150 Stop the Clock tickets left to sell, and I would love the support of my colleagues in helping us sell every last one.

Starting at 5pm Every 15 minutes, we will draw a $500 winner, and our final drawing will be for $2,500! And here’s the best part: even if your ticket wins, it goes right back into the drawing and can win again.
Every ticket we sell brings us one step closer to filling another Box of Love and putting a Thanksgiving dinner on another family's table.
I have always believed that when our community comes together, there is very little we cannot accomplish. 1,300 families is an ambitious goal, but behind every one of those boxes is a family who deserves to know that their community cares about them.

Guest speaker Bill Bleyer will present "Robert Barnwell Roosevelt: Black Sheep of a Prominent Family". We will examine the controversial life of Theodore Roosevelt’s uncle, a noted reformer and Congressman whose scandalous personal life—including a secret second family—led to his exclusion from family history for generations. The talk highlights his significant contributions to conservation alongside his social transgressions.

Constitution Conversations, a non-partisan program developed under the auspices of the New York County Lawyers Association, will be a two-hour session facilitated by two lawyers who will lead a discussion of the procedural rights non-citizens have under the Fifth Amendment’s due process clause when the federal government seeks to deport them.

The session will also cover whether and how the First Amendment, which protects freedom of speech and assembly, limits steps the government can take against lawful resident non-citizens because of views they have expressed on particular issues. This will not be a lecture. Rather, it will be an opportunity for participants to ask and discuss the hard questions that these issues and the litigation over them have raised, such as: 
<ul><li>What rights do persons illegally in the country who are accused of being part of a terrorist organization have to challenge the government’s decision to deport them under a 1798 law, the Alien Enemies Act?</li><li>What is the balance between efficient immigration enforcement and constitutional due process?</li><li>Can lawful non-citizen residents engaging in speech and protest activities permitted to citizens under the First Amendment be deported because the government claims&nbsp;their speech jeopardizes US foreign policy interests?&nbsp;</li></ul>
