Car Leaves Road, Hits 16-Year-Old Pedestrian In Bay Shore: Police
A 16-year-old Bay Shore resident was taken to South Shore University Hospital with serious injuries Friday evening, police say.
BAY SHORE, NY — A teenage pedestrian was seriously injured Friday evening after a vehicle left the roadway and struck him on the North Sunrise Service Road in Bay Shore, Suffolk County police said.
The crash happened at around 6:35 p.m. on the westbound North Sunrise Service Road near Atlantic Avenue, according to police.
Segundo Guaman, 69, of Brentwood, was driving westbound when he lost control of his vehicle, which left the roadway and struck James Amaya, 16, of Bay Shore, who was walking on the side of the road, police said.

Amaya was transported to South Shore University Hospital in Bay Shore for treatment of serious injuries, police said. Guaman was not injured.
The vehicle involved was impounded for a safety check, according to detectives.

Suffolk County Police Third Squad detectives are continuing the investigation and are asking anyone with information about the crash to contact the Third Squad at 631-854-8352.
