Group Caught Illegally Removing Fish At Captree State Park: DEC

A cast net was used to remove over 30 fish; the group was issued violations returnable to First District Court in Central Islip.

BAY SHORE, NY — A group of fishermen were caught themselves — busted for using a cast net to illegally remove over 30 fish from the water at Captree State Park on Sunday, New York State Department of Conservation officials said.

Responding to a complaint, environmental conservation officers Dickson and DeRose found the group with the net, and when they went through their catch, the two found a haul of over 30 snappers, sea bass, weakfish, according to a news release.

The officers issued seven tickets for the violations, then nabbed two different groups of fishermen, who were also taking fish illegally, and issued another six tickets, DEC officials said. All tickets are returnable to Suffolk First District Court in Central Islip, according to the DEC.

Patch does not print the names of people charged with violations.
