LI Man Crashes Stolen Truck In CT., Leads Cops On Chase: Police

The 48-year-old lead cops on a chase after crashing the stolen box truck into a guardrail but was eventually apprehended by K-9, police say.

FAIRFIELD, CT — A Long Island man was arrested in Conneticut after he was caught driving a stolen truck and fled law enforcement before crashing into a guardrail last week, according to State Police. On Thursday at about 11:30 a.m., an officer saw the truck owned by a furniture company in Deer Park that had been reported stolen, headed north on Interstate 95 in Fairfield, according to police.

Police pulled the vehicle over, but as officers approached, it sped away, according to the report. Officers did not pursue the truck, which continued north in the right shoulder before getting off the interstate at Exit 21, blowing through a stop sign at Mill Plains Road and continuing back on the I-95 ramp, police said. However, shortly after the vehicle crashed into roughly 110 feet of metal beam guardrail and rolled onto its side, police said.

The driver, 48-year-old Victor Matosaponte of Bay Shore, tried to run but was apprehended by a K-9, police said. He was transported to Bridgeport Hospital for a suspected minor injury and later taken into custody on charges related to the stolen vehicle, police said.
