Man Charged In DWI Crash After Seriously Injuring Motorcyclist: PD

The motorcyclist was airlifted via helicopter to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment of serious injuries, police said.

BAY SHORE, NY — A man was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated after a crash that seriously injured a female motorcyclist in Bay Shore Sunday night, Suffolk police said, police said.

John Hernandez-Hernandez, 21, of Bay Shore was driving a 2014 Chrysler 300 northbound on Fifth Avenue at approximately 8:20 p.m. when he attempted to turn left onto Fairtown Road, causing a southbound 2020 Kawasaki motorcycle driven by a Central Islip woman to crash into his vehicle, police said.

She was airlifted via Suffolk County Police helicopter to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment of serious injuries, police said.

Hernandez-Hernandez was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated.

He is being held at the Third Precinct and is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on April 29.

Both vehicles were impounded for safety checks.
