Pedestrian Fatally Struck by Car in Bay Shore

The 70-year-old died after he was struck on Wednesday evening, police say.

BAY SHORE, NY - A pedestrian was killed after being struck by a car in Bay Shore on Wednesday evening, according to Suffolk Police.

Blanca Fuentes, 29, of North Bay Shore, was driving a 2000 Jeep Cherokee southbound on Fifth Avenue, near Jensen Road, when she struck Arquimides Barrera, 70, of Bay Shore, who was crossing from the west to the east side of Fifth Avenue, at 5:45 p.m., police said.

Barrera was transported by Brentwood Legion Ambulance to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore where he was pronounced dead, police said.

Fuentes was not injured and remained at the scene.

The Jeep was impounded for a safety check and the investigation is continuing.
