"The addition of this recreational space will generate income for the town, create jobs and be a safe space for teens to skate and have fun," Walther writes in the petition.

Currently, the only ice rink in the area is The Rinx located in Hauppauge.

The petition is seeking a total of 1,500 signatures and as of Monday has received 1,085 signatures.
