Snow Plow Flips On Sunrise Highway During 'Potentially Life-Threatening' Blizzard Conditions: Police

The snowplow struck a guardrail near Exit 44, police say.

BAY SHORE, NY — A New York State Department of Transportation snowplow struck a guardrail and overturned on westbound Sunrise Highway Sunday night, Suffolk County police said.

The crash happened about 200 feet east of Exit 44 at around 8:15 p.m., police said. The male driver was not injured, according to police.

Westbound Sunrise Highway was closed until approximately midnight as crews worked at the scene, police said.

A blizzard slammed Long Island Sunday night, bringing more than 20 inches of snow and wind gusts of more than 70 miles per hours at various locations, according to the National Weather Service, who predicted "potentially life-threatening conditions" and whiteout conditions.
