South Shore University Hospital To Extend Visiting Hours

BAY SHORE, NY — Patients at a Long Island hospital will be able to spend more time with loved ones.

South Shore University Hospital announced that beginning Monday, visitors now can see non-COVID patients between the extended hours of 8 a.m. to 8p.m., seven days a week. Previously, hospital visiting hours were only from 12p.m. to 8 p.m.

"We hope this good news gives you comfort and peace of mind, whether you are under treatment or in the healing process," said SSUH in a press release. " Having a loved one present can mean the world of difference to your recovery and emotional well-being, and we at South Shore University
Hospital recognize that."

Each patient will also be able to have one visitor present at the bedside, and up to two visitors per day. Patients also have the option to schedule a video chat session with loved ones via Facetime or Zoom.

Visitors also must abide by certain guidelines, such as provide proof of a Covid-19 Vaccination or a negative PCR or Rapid Covid-19 test from within the last 72 hours before entering the hospital. Guest are not permitted to visit COVID-19 patients or COVID-19 patients under investigation.

Other visitor guidelines for varied patients include:

For non-COVID-19 patient visitation:
 All visitors are required to provide proof of a Covid-19 Vaccination or a negative PCR or Rapid Covid-19 test
from within the last 72 hours before entering the hospital.
 Visitation hours are 8:00am– 8:00pm, seven days a week. Visitors cannot exceed this window.
 A maximum of two visitors are allowed each day and, only one visitor will be allowed in the facility at a time.
 Once a visitor leaves the facility, they cannot re-enter until the following day.
 Upon exit of the facility, each visitor must return their ID badge in the identified location.
 Visitors must undergo symptom and temperature checks upon entering the facility.
 A hospital-issued mask must be worn at all times & wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
 All visitors must present ID when entering the facility. All visitors must wear a visitor badge.
 No one under 12 years of age will be permitted to visit/enter the facility.
 Visitors must wash hands or use hand sanitizer when entering and leaving the patient’s room.
 Visitors must avoid physical contact, such as hugging, with the patient.
 Visitors are not permitted to wear personal gloves upon entry into the facility.
 Visitors are permitted to access the cafeteria.

Emergency Department:
 One visitor per patient at the bedside.
 ED visitors do not need to provide proof of vaccination or Covid-19 testing
 Visitors are not permitted to visit COVID-19 patients or COVID -19 patients under investigation.
 Visitation may be suspended at any time to ensure patient safety.

Ambulatory Surgery:
 No visitation is permitted within our peri-operative areas. All visitors must wait in the main lobby.

Maternal Child Health Visitation:
Support person visitation
 Patients may have 2 support persons for the duration of their stay.

L&D Admissions:
 Support persons included but not limited to partners, family members, friends, doulas. Both support persons must
have full vaccination and/or a Covid negative PCR Test
 Triage will continue to be patient only
 PACU one visitor at a time

Mother Baby & High risk
 Support persons may come and go. Each visitor can visit one at a time. Partner may stay overnight, and second visitor
is allowed during visitation hours.

NICU & Pediatrics:
 Both parents are able to stay and visit with their child at the same time.
Doctor Appointments & Radiology Tests:
 Patients and Visitors arriving for an outpatient doctor appointment or radiology test, do not need to provide proof of
vaccination or negative Covid-19 testing.
 All patients and visitors are required to follow all other facility-based visitation guidelines.
