UPDATE: Police Save Suicidal Woman From Southern State Overpass

The woman was taken to the hospital for a medical and physiological evaluation, police say.

A suicidal woman was rescued from a Southern State Parkway overpass in Bay Shore Friday morning, according to State Police.

At about 10:35 a.m., state troopers responded to the overpass at exit 41N–Bay Shore Road, police said. Senior Investigator Simon Ocampo, who is a crisis negotiator, and Investigator Charles Knapp overheard the transmission at the State Police location in Brentwood and responded.

Ocampo made contact with the woman and with the logistical support of Suffolk Police, who cut away the protective fence, successfully negotiated the woman's surrender to police. She was taken into custody by troopers and transported to Southside Hospital for a medical and physiological evaluation.
