Woman Killed in Hit-and-Run Crash in Suffolk County
Police are searching for the vehicle and driver that fled the scene Thursday morning.

BRENTWOOD, NY – An 81-year-old woman from Ecuador visiting family on Long Island was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver Thursday morning, Suffolk Police said.
According to police, Maria Carmelina Arroba Gavilanez was walking on Ferris Avenue near the intersection of O’Rourke Street in Brentwood when she was struck by a vehicle at about 7:15 a.m. The vehicle, possibly light in color, fled eastbound on O’Rourke Street.
Gavilanez was pronounced dead at the scene.
