"The thoughts of the entire district are with the Mary G. Clarkson family. Everyone in the district will miss Mrs. Addeo’s infectious smile and caring manner," Superintendent Joseph C. Bond wrote in a statement. "If there is anyone who feels that they or their children need to speak to someone about this, please do not hesitate to reach out to the social workers in our buildings."
A former student and co-worker also expressed their condolences on social media.
"She was my 4th grade teacher at South Country many moons ago and a friend of my mom's. I was fortunate enough to see her from time to time throughout my adulthood. A wonderful teacher with an outgoing personality and full of laughter," one woman commented on Facebook.
Candy Thompsett, a colleague and friend of Addeo's, told Patch that Addeo has worked for Bay Shore schools for many years and changed the lives of many teachers, parents, and former students for the better.
"Laurie was a beloved teacher in the Bay Shore school district; Laurie was my friend and colleague for many years," she said. "My thoughts and love go out to her family. Laurie became a grandma to Camryn a few months ago; she was loved by her family, students, and fellow teachers. She will be missed."
