4th Annual International Yoga Day at Crocheron Park, June 27th

Free Event is Aimed to Promote Well Being

Friends of Crocheron Celebrates 4th Annual International Yoga Day!

THE EVENT AIMED TO PROMOTE HUMAN WELL-BEING

BAYSIDE, QUEENS - Friends of Crocheron & John Golden Park will hold their 4th Annual International Yoga Day Celebration on Saturday June 27. The event is free and open to the public. The event is planned in collaboration with Ambeka Khadse, a local yoga instructor who hosts Monday evening yoga in Crocheron Park every week through Shape Up NYC and Friends of Crocheron’s Yoga Centering series funded by NewYork-Presbyterian’s Mini-grant, with fiscal sponsorship by FJC - Foundations of Philanthropic Funds. The day’s event will begin with a yoga session by instructor Ambeka Khadse, the event will also have a session with Sunhae from Bayside Meditation, and a Walking Meditation with John Weir, a NYC Parks’ Super Steward. The morning will end with free ice coffee from the CoSpire Cafe, a new cafe on Bell Blvd that doubles as workforce development for participants of CIDA NY’s programs, along with a free raffle, thanks to a grant from 4Imprint and fiscal sponsorship by FJC - Foundations of Philanthropic Funds.

International Yoga Day, established by the UN in 2015, is observed annually on 21 June to raise awareness about the physical and mental health benefits of practicing yoga. Friends of Crocheron hosts the annual free community event to share a holistic approach to wellness with our park community. The UN’s theme for this year is “Yoga for Healthy Ageing,” emphasizing how yoga is important for people of all ages.

The event will begin with a brief overview of Friends of Crocheron’s mission and how yoga in the park connects parkgoers to the land. The International Yoga Day serves as a platform to educate and inspire our park community about the value that yoga has for a healthy and balanced lifestyle. The event looks to leave participants with a deeper sense of connection to nature, our park community, as well as foster a culture of wellness and mindfulness.

The Friends of Crocheron & John Golden Park is a non-profit community group, founded in 2020. Friends is a 501C3 organization under its fiscal sponsor, FJC - A Foundation of Philanthropic Funds. Volunteers from the community and is dedicated to caring for and honoring the history of the 67 acre park. Over the last five years, the group has brought over 100 free events to the park, including volunteer events like park clean ups and beautifications, along with park history exhibits, food giveaways, yoga sessions. The group always welcomes new members.
