BAYSIDE, QUEENS — The long-awaited renovation of Crocheron Park's little league baseball field will begin this summer.

The NYC Parks Department will begin construction on the field after July 4, so the Bayside Little League can finish their season, City Council Member Paul Vallone announced on Monday.

The parks department has planned to reconstruct the park's southwest ballfield at 215th St. and 35th Ave since 2017, agency records show. The project will wrap up after a year, according to Vallone.

“I’m proud to work with our Parks Department to build our kids the field they deserve and give them a taste of what it’s like to play on a bigger stage,” Vallone said. “The major upgrades to this field will ensure that future generations of little leaguers will be able to enjoy it for years to come."

The project includes a new infield made of clay and sand, a new section of bleachers, drinking fountains to refill water bottles, new gates and fences, a manual irrigation system and accessible dugouts with new benches. The parks department will also plant new trees on the edges of the site to add shade.

“Our kids deserve great places to play, and with new infield clay, regraded turf, water fountains and benches, the new ballfield is sure to be a home run," Michael Dockett, NYC Parks' Queens borough commissioner, said in a statement.

The Bayside Little League season will start in a few weeks.
