Why are residents and shoppers in the Bay Terrace community forced to accept the inferior shopping facilities reprersented by the shopping center. It is a virtual revolving door of small independent business owners being forced to pay rents they cannot afford and several national chains that can.
It is a disgrace to see so many empty stores in a shopping center that could and should offer so much more. The stores are so small that they offer a very limited choice of inventory. The rents are exhorbitant and when I mention some numbers to local politicians they don't believe me.
When I did call Cord Meyer years ago, they told me that the owners of Cord Meyer were friends with the owners of Wheatley Plaza and they wanted to make Bay Terrace just like Wheatley Plaza. That was their first mistake since there is a great disparity of income and age of the shoppers.

It is time for the owners of Bay Terrace and landlords on Bell Blvd. to offer retail space at affordable prices to attract shoppers. It seems that the only ones benefitting from this condition are the sign makers for new stores contantly opening (and closing shortly thereafter).
