Bus Service Will Be Restored and Extended in Northeast Queens Next Year

Bus service along Little Neck Parkway will be restored early next year, while another line will be extended to Queensborough Community College according to the city’s Metropolitan Transit Authority.

The Q36 line on Jamaica Avenue will continue along Little Neck Parkway in January.

Additionally, the Q30 line will be extended to Queensborough Community College on weekdays.

“Every line that was shut down or cut back should be restored,” Community Board 11 Chairman Jerry Iannece said. “We have no subways out here. Northeast Queens gets shortchanged all the time.”

Iannece said residents in Bayside, Douglaston and Little Neck had been deeply concerned about cuts to bus service in the communities.

“They can’t cut bus service without putting something in its place,” he said. “People can’t get to work or school without it. And seniors need it to get to the 7 train in Flushing.”

He said there are several other bus lines in northeast Queens, including service to Oakland Gardens, that still need to be restored.

The MTA will begin holding eight public hearings on its proposed fare and toll increases in early November.

The Queens hearing will take place at 5 p.m. on Nov. 7 in the ballroom of the Sheraton LaGuardia East Hotel, located at 135-20 39^th Ave. in Flushing.
