Join the Bayside Historical Society for a hands-on Gravestone Preservation Workshop at the historic Lawrence Cemetery. Led by expert conservator John Griffin of Griffin Gravestone Conservation, this immersive experience will teach participants how to safely and respectfully clean historic gravestones using approved methods and materials.
Through guided instruction and hands-on practice, attendees will gain a practical understanding of preservation techniques, proper care standards, and the importance of protecting these irreplaceable cultural resources for future generations.
The workshop concludes with a Q&A session at noon, with the option to stay until 2:00 PM for additional hands-on cleaning, deeper discussion, and continued learning.
Location: The Lawrence Cemetery in Bayside, at the corner of 216th Street and 42nd Avenue. Please note: the site requires walking on uneven ground, and there are no restrooms available.
The cost is free. RSVP at baysidehistorical.org/events-1/gravestone-preservation-workshop-at-the-lawrence-cemetery.
The scheduled rain date for this event is Sunday, May 17th.
