Cantar Alla Viola To Make US Debut at SFY!
Acclaimed Spanish duo "CANTAR ALLA VIOLA" will make their US debut as they present music of Italian, Spanish & English Renaissance on 10/20.

Acclaimed Spanish duo “CANTAR ALLA VIOLA” will make their US debut as they present rarely performed music of Italian, Spanish and English Renaissance on Monday, October 20 2014 at 6:00 PM at the Samuel Field Y!
The harmonies of the viola da gamba are sustained by using a special bow technique, which creates a sweet sound that mixes well with the emotive human voice. The words become music and the sounds become poetry in a very a suggestive approach to the restless and enigmatic sonic world of the period.
The Program will include works by Juan del Encina (1468-1529), Luca Marenzio (1553-1599), Luzzasco Luzzaschi (1545-1607) and William Corkine (“The Second Booke of Ayres. 1612). The concert features a largely forgotten technique of using a bowed instrument to play polyphony and harmony as an accompaniment to the voice, known as “Cantar Alla Viola.”
