Douglaston Native Karmas Drafted By Padres
First baseman taken in 25th round out of St. John's.
SECAUCUS, N.J. – Douglaston native and St. John’s product Paul Karmas was selected by the San Diego Padres in the 25th round, 773 overall, in this year’s Major League Baseball draft Tuesday.
The senior first baseman hails from St. Francis Prep and was a three-time All-Big East selection for the Johnnies. He joins teammate Joe Panik, who was taken by the San Francisco Giants with the 29th overall pick Monday evening, as the only other Red Storm player selected through the first two days of the draft.
"This is an absolute dream come true and by far the best day of my life," said Karmas in a statement through the university. "I am so thankful that the Padres called my name and are giving me the opportunity to continue my baseball career.”
