NCC Lecture: "The Police and the Constitution"

In honor of Constitution Day, NYPD detective and history professor James Coll will give a presentation entitled "The Police and the Constitution." Coll will include some popular Supreme Court decisions to discuss the modern-day challenges between society and the Constitution.

The following topics will be discussed:

-Can a police officer frisk an individual who is not taken into custody?

-Is evidence seized without a warrant admissible in court?

-Does the Miranda warning have to be read to every suspect arrested?

-Is the search of a vehicle operated by a person who violated a minor traffic infraction lawful?

Constitution Day recognizes the original signing of the U.S. Constitution on September 17, 1787 and is currently recognized for an entire week.
