Today, a lot of children are in pre-kindergarten at their elementary schools either part time or full time, so they are used to the school day structure.  However, others will be attending school for the first time and that will be an adjustment.  Kindergarten today, is like first or second grade back in my day. The children are expected to be in school for a full day with homework and no naptime. And the expectations are higher.

A good way to prepare is to talk to your children and give them an idea of what to expect. You can visit a classroom and tour the school your child will attend - but most of all, ask questions. The school's parent coordinator is your best bet for answers.
