UFT Calls for Local Students to Apply for Scholarship
Group will host scholarship dinner dance on May 30.

The United Federation of Teachers and Community District Education Council 26 will host the seventh annual scholarship dinner dance on May 30.
The scholarships will be presented to winners of the UFT’s essay contests in the form of a check valued up to $1,000 at the dinner dance.
For pre-kindergarten students to enter the contest, they must draw a picture of their favorite school activity.

Kindergarten students should do the same, but also write about the activity.
First and second grade students should write one to three paragraphs about their favorite subject and mention why it is their favorite.

Third and fourth graders should write about something they have learned and why it is important. The essay should be between 300 and 500 words.
Middle school students should write a 500- to 700-word essay on what they have done to make a difference in their community.
High school students should write a 750- to 1,000-word piece on a community service project on which they have worked. In the essay, they should discuss how community service has made an impact on their lives.
All submissions should be completed on eight-and-a-half inch by 11-inch paper. Essays should be typed and double-spaced.
To apply, students must attend a District 26 public school, but District 75 students attending a local school are also eligible.
Each submission should have the student’s name, school, contact information and permission slip from their parent or guardian attached.
